How To Fix Funky Text Display in Firefox
For the past month, I’ve been having a very frustrating issue with Firefox. Not frustrating enough to send me back to using IE, but close enough.
On some websites, I would get weird display issues with text, such as odd jumbles of characters as seen here.
On other websites the text would not display at all and I would see blank space or odd lines on the page where the text should be, making it impossible to read quite a few of the blogs and other websites I’m interested in.
After countless hours of searching for a solution, I finally found the answer. According to this post on Mozilla, I know, I know, I should have looked there first, the problem comes from a font that Firefox cannot render correctly. In my case it was the helevetica font. Geneva fonts are also known to cause this problem.
To eliminate the problem, all I had to do was navigate to the Windows/Fonts folder and delete the offending font. Don’t worry. When you delete the font, it will go to the Recycle Bin folder, so if deleting it doesn’t solve your problem, you can simply restore it and try deleting the Geneva font instead. Happy surfing!
